To improve workplace civility nurses should have online access to conflict management training opportunities that incorporate discipline-specific role play simulations. Currently, no known training opportunities of this kind are available to nurses or nursing students. Such trainings, if available, might improve employee retention, staffing efficiency, and workplace civility among nurses. This project developed a set of negotiation and de-escalation simulations, addressing a gap in training materials that prepare nursing students for effective conflict management. This project was implemented in two steps. The first step was to develop and situate online an example set of three multistep interactive role play simulations designed to be incorporated into existing online or lecture based curricula. The second step was the evaluation of specific pedagogical criteria of the simulations by three content experts (i.e., a distance learning course designer, a nursing educator, and a conflict management expert). The investigator created a set of three innovative and peer-reviewed distance learning teaching aids to benefit nurse educators who want to teach conflict management more effectively.
